Elkton offers facilities for baseball,
softball, tennis, soccer, volleyball and horseshoes. Three city parks
comprising 20 acres include playgrounds, picnic areas and walking
trails.
Within a 50-mile radius of Elkton,
the George Washington National Forest features 189,228 acres of
natural habitat, hiking, fishing and hunting. The Shenandoah River
is a popular retreat for canoes.
Massanutten Resort, a 4-season
resort just 10 minutes to the west, offers swimming, mountain
biking, skiing and golf.
The Skyline Drive and Blue Ridge
Parkway offer marvelous views of the Blue Ridge Mountains and
Shenandoah National Park, just 5 minutes to the east, plus lodging
and educational programs. For hikers and backpackers, the
Appalachian Trail offers some of the most spectacular scenery in
Virginia. In addition, there are hundreds of miles of nature walks,
hiking and horse trails as well as primitive and full-amenity
campgrounds.
Elkton is within easy driving
distance of several major attractions including Luray Caverns, Grand
Caverns in Grottoes, the American Frontier Culture Museum in
Staunton, Thomas Jefferson's home, Monticello, in Charlottesville,
and the P. Buckley Moss Museum in Waynesboro.
The Shenandoah Valley Folk Art & Heritage

millennium, a diverse collection of folk art, a genealogy
library and much more!
The Edith J. Carrier Arboretum, part of
James Madison University, includes 125 acres of native oak-hickory
forest, miles of winding trails, diverse gardens and habitats.
The Valley played a key role in the Civil
War
and many of the most important sites have been preserved for
visitors. These include the battlefields of Port Republic and Cross
Keys
as well as the New Market Battlefield, which includes a visitors
center, Hall of Valor Civil War Museum and the preserved 19th century
Bushong Farm.
